Jemma Wayne is a writer and journalist with a special interest in multi-cultural issues. Having graduated from Cambridge University in 2002 with an academic scholarship for her achievements in Social and Political Sciences, she went on to gain a Distinction in a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Westminster, before working as a reporter for The Jewish Chronicle.

In 2004 she decided to take the plunge as a full time writer, and six months later saw the publication of her first full-length work, Bare Necessities, published by Piatkus Books. A witty, anecdotal A Level in life, it enjoyed considerable acclaim including full-page features from a variety of press including The Mail on Sunday’s You Magazine, The Sunday Times Magazine, and The Independent on Sunday.

Jemma has since turned her attention to fiction. Her short story The Outsider was published by Limehouse Books in 2010, and Lunch can be seen in this October’s edition of Kerouac’s Dog magazine. She has recently completed her first novel, After Before.

Jemma also continues to contribute to various publications as a freelance journalist. In particular she has written for The Evening Standardand The Independent on Sunday, and writes a regular political column for the The Jewish News.

Over the years she has worked in television as a writer/researcher, and with a family history in theatre has always held an interest here too. Her first stage play Negative Space opened at The New End Theatre, Hampstead, in September 2009 to critical acclaim including four stars and Critic’s Choice from Time Out. Jemma and her co-writer and currently at work on a second stage drama.
